The Copenhagen Metro M1+M2 has been in operation for 18 years and is know for high service availability and customer satisfaction. The demand for public transportation in Copenhagen continues to increase while the Metro's rolling stock and infrastructure is aging.
The current fleet of 34 metro trains have a life expectancy of 25 years. The system has now however, reached a point, where it is going from being a new system to becoming an incumbent system, where replacements and renewals have to be done more frequently and the scale and complexity of the activities are increasing. Metroselskabet is therefore undertaking this mid-life overhaul to ensure the Metro continues to deliver a high service availability and customer satisfaction while increasing capacity at the same time. The scope of this work is to extend the life expectancy of the fleet in order to deliver high service availability going into 2035. Hence investments in life-extension of the fleet is required.

The objective is to extend the operational life of the fleet of 34 vehicles on the M1/M2 line at Metroselskabet by 10 years so they can continue in operation until 2035.
The first two vehiclesof the overhaul process are considered as a pre-series production with a longer lead time in terms of allowing a more detailed verification of the scope with the opportunity for altering the scope. The extended time will also allow a longer time for carrying out the overhaul on the first two vehicles.
For the systems where an updated design due to obsolescence is to be prepared for the overhaul, the evaluation and final determination of the solutions will take place on the first vehicle.
The execution of the overhaul must ensure that all systems covered by the overhaul will be in the same state on the entire fleet of vehicles.
Throughout the entire overhaul process, the work shall be verified by inspections and tests as stated in the tender documents.
A First Article Inspection shall be carried out on the first vehicle in the pre-series production as a release for the continuation of the overhaul.
Transportation and other related tasks are included in the tasks.

1. The number of trains to take out. As a basis the contactor must take two trains out for overhaul at the time. As an option the tender must include the possibility to take three or four trains out at the time.
Other options
1) Panels and air ducts. The complete interior consisting of panels and air ducts must be dismantled for refurbishment including completely new surface treatment, as well as new signage. The inside of the car body must be cleaned of dust before reinstalling the interior.
2) Seats and interior. Scratched handrails and seat frames to be refurbished with a completely new surface treatment.
3) New Seat layout. To optimise the passenger flow, a new seat layout has been installed in three vehicles. Based on the experiences from these three vehicles, the decision will be made as to whether the new seat layout should be installed in all vehicles.
The existing seats will be reused and additional new seats of the same type as the originals will be added. New handrails and glass separations shall be installed.
4) Fixed Header Assembly. A more comprehensive overhaul of the header assembly must be as an option. The scope for the overhaul of the Fixed Header Assembly is specified in TD-0011, Technical Specification, Door System Overhaul.
5) LV/MV Box. The two 6,8 Ω holding resistors (4R01 and 4R02) for the HVCB in the LV box next to the CCU to be replaced with resistors with higher cooling capacity or adding heatsinks including replacement of damaged cables.
6) Horizontal PID. For the Passenger Information Displays (PID), in addition to the LED displays, a TFT display solution must be presented as an option. The requirements for the Horizontal PID are specified in the technical specification: TD-0009, Technical Requirements, PSIS On-Board System.

For the applicant to be qualified for the tender the applicant must demonstrate experience with similar Overhaul projects, similar in terms of scope, complexity and conditions.
The application must be accompanied by references for comparable assignments to the one put out to tender.
Each reference may contain a description of the nature of each project, the client, a contact person if available, the physical and financial size of the project, the work performed by the applicant and the timeframe in which the project was carried out.
Comparable reference projects may include the following key features:
(a) experience and competencies in Overhaul, transport of trains, taking over and handing back and risk management.
(b) identified customer examples, preferably with reference customers;
(c) experience with conduction overhaul from ‘take over’, Transport to ‘hand back’ in the transport industry and ideally within rail/light rail/metro. Where experience in similar industry is better than experience in not similar industry.
The number of references is limited to max 5 and each reference is limit to 3 A4 excluding tables and pictures. The references can maximum be 8 years old, and the references do not have to be on finished projects.
