Aarhus University puts out to tender the purchase of an ice algae growth chamber to the Department of Environmental Science at Aarhus University.
The Department of Environmental Science wants to acquire a growth incubator that simulate light and temperature conditions similar to those found on the surface of glaciers in the Arctic. These conditions often imply low temperatures (close to freezing) and high light intensity. The Department have currently microalgae cultures from glaciers that produce high levels of pigmentation for protection against high radiation. These pigments are only formed under certain light and temperature conditions. The incubator will be used for maintenance of glacial algae cultures and for experiments manipulating temperature and light conditions, including different amounts of PAR, UVA and UVB.
