The Department AEM is responsible for the animal care and use programme at the University of Copenhagen and Copenhagen University Hospital. The animal care also includes a health program to follow welfare of the animals. The Health Program is defined according to the FELASA recommendation, Laboratory Animals 2014, Vol. 48(3) 178-192, hereinafter Appendix A. This includes monitoring rodents by a number of biological tests, performed with a specific frequency using defined agents. The program also defines the use of sentinel animals. AEM currently holds 86 mice sentinel cages and 4 rat sentinel cages.
