Institutional capacity strengthening for Public Heath Nutrition 1).
Danida has provided support to the Health Sector in Mozambique since 1992 through 5-year support programmes. In 2010, this support was expanded to include nutrition. A new programme (phase V) started in 2013 and the focus was support to health, nutrition, hiv/aids and civil society. The nutrition component aims at supporting the implementation of the national Multisectoral Plan for Chronic Malnutrition Reduction through support to capacity strengthening of public health nutrition expertise in addition to direct support to the implementation of the multisectoral provincial nutrition plans.
Danida is seeking to collaborate with a Training institution/Academic institution/University that can collaborate and provide technical assistance for the University Lúrio in Nampula. The objective is to facilitate an increased output of public health nutritionists and improve the quality of the education as part of scaling up nutrition education capacity and fill the current gap.
The policy and technical dialogue on public health nutrition training as well as curriculum development for public health nutritionist will be part of this assignment. Technical Assistance will be provided based on the assessed need and request of University Lúrio and may include areas such as problem based teaching and learning, quality assurance, update courses for teachers, student classes in specific requested subjects, classes for the Master in Nutrition and Health courses, management support and liaison with the provincial focal points for Food Security and Nutrition as well as the Provincial technical training institutes that currently train nutrition technicians. Furthermore, support to provincial nutrition plans and implementation and supportive supervision of these provincial training institutions are foreseen.
As part of the deliverable, the most economically advantageous tenderer will also provide approximately 4 MSc's and at least 1 PhD's as part of their contract. The MSc degree must be offered through distance learning (e-learning).
1) Public Health Nutrition is defined as: A population approach to the primary prevention of diet-related illnesses and the promotion of health through nutrition. This approach emphasizes the maintenance of “wellness” in the whole population and the adoption of a public health approach that recognizes the wider social ad ecological context in which nutrition related health problems arise (UK Nutrition Society 1997).

— Ability to provide support in strategic planning and working in multi-sectorial, multicultural and complex environments.

— Ability to provide relevant technical assistance in Portuguese and English
