SKV Wood Chips – Flue Gas Condensing
Introduction
Dong Energy Thermal Power is planning to implement district heating production based on biofuels through erection of a number of wood-chip boilers, providing steam for existing steam turbine and/or stand alone district heating condensor. Two to four boilers are envisaged as an add-on the existing gas fired plant, Skærbækverket. The new biomass fired boilers shall deliver up to 320 MW heat to the district heating system. It is envisaged that the new boiler plant shall have a capacity of maximum 280 MW and the remaining heat shall be provided by flue gas condensers.
In normal operation, the steam will be fed to an existing turbine. It will also be possible to operate the whole plant only producing heat through by-pass operation to the stand alone by-pass condensor.
Fuel will be wood chips. Recycled wood will not be used. The fuel specification will be included in the Invitation to Tender.
The intention is to provide the boiler with an SNCR system for NOx-reduction.
The boilers shall be equipped with a complete flue gas treatment system consisting of bag filters, to clean the flue gas before the flue gas condensers.
Flue gas condensation
The plant shall be equipped with a complete flue gas condensation system in order to recover the maximum amount of heat from the flue gas and clean the flue gas from ammonia. The flue gas condensation plant shall not use heat pump technology. It is envisaged that the flue gas condensation package consists of the following main components:
1. Flue gas condenser(s) with separate quench system(s)
2. Water treatment system
3. Flue gas channels and dampers
4. By-pass system for flue gas condenser
5. Chemical storage tanks with dosing system
6. Environmental measurement system
7. Necessary heat exchangers
The condensers are placed after bag filters and flue gas fans. Battery limits are from the outlet of the flue gas fans to the inlet of the stack. The condensers shall be equipped with a by-pass system for the flue gases. The condensers shall be designed for ammonia removal. The condensate shall mainly be recycled within the process and excess condensate shall be cleaned from particles, heavy metals and ammonia in a water treatment based on ion-exchange technique and/or membrane technique. Ammonia may have to be removed from the condensate with a stripper. Chemical storage tanks and dosing systems shall be included.
