Fehmarnbelt Fixed Link Project: Tunnel Portals and Ramps Contract
The Fehmarnbelt Fixed Link Project ('Project') is the final stage in the realisation of a straight traffic corridor between Scandinavia and continental Europe. This is intended to be an immersed tunnel containing two dual carriageways and a twin-track railway subject to plan approvals. It will traverse the 19km distance across the Fehmarnbelt between Lolland in Denmark and Puttgarden in northern Germany. The immersed tunnel elements will be manufactured at a pre-designated site at Rødbyhavn on Lolland ('Production Site'). Femern A/S will procure the Project by way of the award of four main civil engineering contracts (the 'Principal Contracts') and several supplementary contracts. The Principal Contracts are: (1) Tunnel Dredging and Reclamation Contract; (2) Tunnel North Contract; (3) Tunnel South Contract; and (4) Tunnel Portals and Ramps Contract. Contract notices are being simultaneously published in the Official Journal of the European Union for all 4 Principal Contracts.
The Tunnel Portals and Ramps Contract will consist of the following works at each of the Danish and German portals to the tunnel: design and construction of the portals inside dykes (procured under the Tunnel Dredging and Reclamation Contract); design and construction of the cut and cover tunnel, ramps and land works on both sides of the Tunnel; construction of the road link from and to the entry portals (approximate lengths are 3.5km on the Fehmarn-side and 5km on the Lolland-side); construction of the railway sub-base (or slab-track) from and to the entry portals (approximate lengths are 3.5km on the Fehmarn-side and 5km on the Lolland-side); and other ancillary works. The Tunnel Portals and Ramps Contract will also include the following works: cladding and paving of the entire tunnel; and the provision of temporary lighting and temporary ventilation in the tunnel during the performance of the aforementioned works and for the electrical and mechanical works and railway works (both procured under separate contracts); minor installation works; coordination of access and day-to-day use of common work areas for all contractors engaged on the Project; the performance of other delegated tasks relating to common work areas including, for example, health and safety; and other ancillary works.
