Fehmarnbelt Fixed Link Project: Tunnel North Contract
The Fehmarnbelt Fixed Link Project ('Project') is the final stage in the realisation of a straight traffic corridor between Scandinavia and continental Europe. This is intended to be an immersed tunnel containing two dual carriageways and a twin-track railway subject to plan approvals. It will traverse the 19km distance across the Fehmarnbelt between Lolland in Denmark and Puttgarden in northern Germany. The immersed tunnel elements will be manufactured at a pre-designated site at Rødbyhavn on Lolland ('Production Site'). Femern A/S will procure the Project by way of the award of four main civil engineering contracts (the 'Principal Contracts') and several supplementary contracts. The Principal Contracts are: (1) Tunnel Dredging and Reclamation Contract; (2) Tunnel North Contract; (3) Tunnel South Contract; and (4) Tunnel Portals and Ramps Contract. Contract notices are being simultaneously published in the Official Journal of the European Union for all 4 Principal Contracts.
A high degree of coordination will be required between the works under the two tunnel contracts. The following components of the Project will be procured under the two tunnel contracts: design and construction of the production facilities at the Production Site for standard tunnel elements; provision of a solution for floating tunnel elements to the immersion site; construction of part of the quaysides at the works harbour (apart from the dredging of the harbour) to be co-located with the production facilities at the Production Site; the manufacture of standard tunnel elements at the Production Site; the manufacture of special tunnel elements (i.e. those elements with additional functionalities to support ventilation, safety, power and other operations) at either another location or the Production Site (to be determined by the successful bidder and subject to Femern A/S's approval); foundation works in the tunnel trench (the trench being procured under the Tunnel Dredging and Reclamation Contract); transport to, and immersion of the tunnel elements in the trench; and ballasting, backfilling, jointing and protection of the immersed tunnel elements; minor installation works and other ancillary works. The finishing works such as cladding, paving, ventilation and lighting will be procured under separate contracts.
