Fehmarnbelt fixed link project: tunnel dredging and reclamation contract
The Fehmarnbelt Fixed Link Project ("Project") is the final stage in the realisation of a straight traffic.
Corridor between Scandinavia and continental Europe. This is intended to be an immersed tunnel containing two dual carriageways and a twin-track railway subject to plan approvals. It will traverse the 19km distance across the Fehmarnbelt between Lolland in Denmark and Puttgarden in northern Germany. The immersed tunnel elements will be manufactured at a pre-designated site at Rødbyhavn on Lolland ("Production Site"). Femern A/S will procure the Project by way of the award of four main civil engineering contracts (the "Principal Contracts") and several supplementary contracts. The Principal Contracts are: (1) Tunnel Dredging and Reclamation Contract; (2) Tunnel North Contract; (3) Tunnel South Contract; and (4) Tunnel Portals and Ramps Contract. Contract notices are being simultaneously published in the Official Journal of the European Union for all 4 Principal Contracts.
The Tunnel Dredging and Reclamation Contract has two elements. The dredging element of this contract will require: the dredging of a trench for the tunnel (approximately 18km in length and 10m in depth and 45m in width (measured at the bottom of the trench)); the dredging and excavation of the area at the entrances to the Tunnel and construction of dykes around the two construction sites for the tunnel ramps and portals; the dredging of an access channel and harbour basin for the production facilities at Rødbyhavn, Lolland (and the stockpiling of these materials for the later backfill of the site); the construction of part of the quaysides for the works harbours; and other ancillary works. The reclamation element of this contract will create "reclaimed areas" along the Lolland and Fehmarn coasts. This will require: large scale reclamation works (using the dredged materials); backfilling of the harbour basin; coastal protection works; landscaping works; construction of beaches; planting works; demolition of the works harbours and later backfilling: and other ancillary works.
