Videoservers for TV Studio applications

TV 2/DANMARK A/S

Today, TV 2 have a central video server system for play-out application of video / audio sequences in 3 studios, (ACTU, Nyhederne and Studio B) in TV 2s headquarter in Odense. The manufacture of our existing server is Omneon Spectrum, but this server do not support HD. Based upon experience and our investigations in system solutions, we have decided to maintain the principle, having centralized server architecture for our studios, as this will provide us with both high flexibility and redundancy.The implementation of the server system will be scheduled in steps, starting with a server for the ACTU studio.Delivery schedule:
— 1 central video server system, serving 2 – 3 studios (Actuallity, News Studio and Studie B) – all in Odense to be delivered 2011 / 2012.
— 1 central server system for our Copenhagen facilities, to be delivered 2012 / 2013.
Main specifications:
The new video server system will replace the existing video server system from Omneon, and it is expected to have similar functionality as this.
1. High redundancy.
2. Support of both HD and SD video formats, inclusive 25mb/s SD and (presumably) 100Mb/s HD format (in frame only).
3. HD format: 1080i25 og 720p50.
4. Option for 1080p50 HD format.
5. MXF file format support is preferred.
6. Number of channels: minimum 6 channels per studio, hereof 4 play-out channels and 2 Play / rec. channels. The total number of channels per system will be approx.18 play-out channels, whereof 6 channels can be used for record.
7. Capacity: The attached SAN system must have a capacity of minimum 200 hours of HD quality material (100Mb/s).
8. Remote control capability of each individual I/O port, via approved industry protocols, i.e. Avid Control Air Server (CAS), Sony BVW 422 protocol, plus network control from Mosart Medialab automation system.
9. Avid integration: ”Send To Playout” of clips from Avid Transfer Manager, to play-out from the video server.Audio specifications:
1. 4 stereo pairs per video channel, as a minimum.
2. The server must maintain multi-channel audio signals (5.1) intact through the system.
3. The system must be able to record and play back Dolby E signals.
